Gardening in Small Spaces

Feel that you are missing out on growing your own veggies, herbs and flowers due to lack of space?

Learn to transform a balcony, courtyard, patio or windowsill into a productive garden by using containers, pots and vertical space in our Gardening for Small Places workshop. This session is ideal for renters, too.

This hands on workshop with Sustainable Communities SA's Anne Wilson and Pauline Muir will cover:

  • Assessing your bio-space – the importance of aspect, climate and weather conditions.
  • An organic gardening approach
  • Choosing what you want to grow
  • Choosing your container
  • Plant choices & planning your space
  • Potting media
  • Different plants, different needs
  • A portable wicking box for greens and herbs
  • Raised beds
  • Commercial alternatives

Seeds and soil provided.

Participants should bring a rough sketch of your area with approximate measurements and compass directions. The second hour will be largely given over to individual attention and advice. Also bring along a notebook and pencil, gloves (if you need them), pots (3 x small 10cm diameter pots), plastic bags to cover these, and a basket or bag to carry them away after.

The Adelaide Sustainability Centre is proudly supported by the Adelaide and Mt Lofty Ranges Natural Resource Management Board and Conservation SA.
