Food Matters: Building a local food community

What's your role in a sustainable food system in Adelaide?

COVID-19 has taught us that we need to localise our food system, but how can we actually make that happen?

You'll enjoy a light supper and hear from a previous participant of our Food Matters course about how they have been active in building an alternative food system. This event also includes the opportunity to connect with other like-minded people to support your own actions and participation in a food-share table.

Be inspired, be challenged, and most of all be changed

About guest speaker Jasmine:

City resident Jasmine attended the first Food Matters course run by The Food Embassy in Adelaide. The program has inspired Jasmine to source as much food as possible from local food swaps and gardens, start a preserving group to reduce food waste, and encourage her colleagues to bring backyard produce to work to share.

“I’ve swapped a little bit of food with friends and acquaintances in the past,” says Jasmine, “but since doing the Food Matters course, I’ve made a conscious effort to source most of my plant foods from gardens, and it’s the first time I’ve swapped food with strangers or gone to a produce swap.”

Since finishing the course, Jasmine has gained new skills including food preserving, foraging and sharing - plus an exciting new initiative - come along to hear more!

Jasmine is achieving her goal of being more self sufficient and less reliant on the supermarket, which she says is a very rewarding journey.
