Creatures of the Joinery

Our delightful Joinery creatures and critters are out exploring the #commonground Community Garden and they’d love for you to come and meet them!

Spring has sprung here at the Joinery and we couldn’t be more excited!

But we’re not the only ones soaking up the sun. Our delightful Joinery creatures and critters are out exploring the #commonground Community Garden and they’d love for you to come and meet them!

But first, we think they need a proper introduction.

If you’re wandering past the Joinery and hear a cluck-cluck-cluck, that’s not your imagination, it’s our wonderful chooks Sweet Pea, Lily, Penelope and Henrietta saying hello!

    The Joinery Chickens

There’s no doubt our chickens are the leading ladies of the hen house being our longest garden residents. They spend their days happily pecking at the scraps from The Foodprint Experience Cafe and producing the very best eggs.

If you venture to the southwest corner of the garden, you’re in for a sweet treat - our hive of beautiful buzzing bees! The Joinery bees are Golden Italians, which means they are gentle and calm, not to mention great listeners. We recommend hanging out at the hive when you need to escape the hustle and bustle of life and just bee.

Our last garden residents you’ll need to dig a little deeper to find: the huge number of little critters hard at work in the soil. The Joinery garden is home to species of ants, butterflies, caterpillars, beetles, and many more, but you’ll have to get up close and personal to spot them!

On top of our permanent residents, life at the Joinery is full of surprises, and it’s not unusual to see visitors popping in to say hello. We’ve recently met Theodore Thunderpants, the cutest baby wombat from Wildwood Sanctuary, spotted a rainbow lorikeet named Nemo at our Tree Forum, and we’ve welcomed the newest member of our team, Joinery coordinator Andi’s new puppy Evie.

The Joinery is a hive of activity in the heart of the city, and the best part? Our Community Garden is open to the public 9 - 5pm weekdays! Our creatures and critters are always here, and they can’t wait to see you soon.
