What if the technological heart of digital platforms were reinvented as a cooperative model, democratically owned and operated by everyone who has a stake in them?
Platform co-operatives are the merging of digital platforms and co-operative business models. Co-operative business models can provide greater economic security and retain value in the community where it is created.
bHive Bendigo is Australia’s first platform co-operative, a cooperatively owned, peer to peer sharing economy platform for local towns, starting in Bendigo. Bendigo people will build, operate and own the platform that will build over time to provides skill sharing, car sharing, lifts, food sharing, logistics, house sharing, crowdfunding, insurance and lots more.
Co-founder Ian McBurney will give a presentation on his work with bHive, a tangible expression of sharing cities.
Ian's presentation will be followed by the Adelaide launch of the book 'Sharing Cities: Activating the Urban Commons' by Australian sharing city leaders and contributing authors to the book, Sharon Ede (Adelaide) and Darren Sharp (Melbourne; also convenor of the Platform Cooperativism Australia Working Group, and a founding mentor of bHive Co-op).
Hard copies of the book will be available for purchase at the launch (cash only).
