We recently sat down with socially-inclusive design agency Blend Creative, whose designers' inspiring artworks are showing during SALA Festival at the Joinery.
Blend Creative is a design studio that provides real work opportunities for people with disability.
As a part of their workplace, they wanted to demonstrate the diversity of artistic talent that exists within our team. Blend's exhibition What Shapes Us centres on the person, their experiences and events in their life that has shaped them.
Tell us about yourself as an organisation in three words:
Socially Inclusive Design
What do you like about The Joinery?
The Joinery is a community meeting place that brings together people from all works of life to connect them in meaningful ways within a comfortable space.
Why is it meaningful to you to have your artwork showcased here?
Blend Creative wanted to showcase our work in an environment that supports social connection and community engagement - it is important to us in our work, it is important to people in life.
What inspired you to create this exhibition?
The works are inspired by the events and experiences that build who we are and shapes us in different ways. Using geometric pattern, we crafted the idea that it is these different pieces that make up who we are.
What is the message you want audiences to take away from this exhibition?
We are all unique, we draw from our different life experiences and events to be the person that you see. But sometimes, it is what you don’t see that creates the biggest picture.
You can view Blend Creative's What Shapes Us in our Exhibition Space throughout August 2022 (admission is free).
