With State and Federal Governments failing to implement policy to reestablish a safe climate, local governments around the world have begun to acknowledge we are in a climate emergency and lake leadership positions on this issue.
This forum explores this growing internal movement that began Australia and the critical role local government can play reversing global warming. Issues discussed include what is happening globally and in Australia, leadership by local government through acknowledging and declaring a climate emergency, what a local government climate emergency response would look like, how councils can play a part in drawdown, and how to get your council into emergency mode.
The forum is designed for existing Councillors, council staff, and community members wanting to understand or being to implement a climate emergency response at council; and community members considering running a local government climate emergency declaration campaign.
Speakers include Adrian Whitehead and Byrony Edwards from CACE Community Action in the Climate Emergency. CACE is campaigning nationally to support local governments to declare climate emergencies and get into climate emergency mode. See caceonline.org for more info.
